Ann and I decided we wanted to start a website/blog/vlog where we could talk about stuff.
We wanted to talk about what it’s like to be old and looking for a job.
We wanted to talk about being old and remembering what it was like when we weren’t old.
And what it was like when we worked – outside of the house – with other people .
We wanted to talk about what it’s like parenting a teenager. (FYI – toddlers are easier)
We wanted to talk about the thought of an empty nest.
We wanted to talk about how crazy it is to try and find a job after stepping away for like, 15 years. F—ing hard.
We want to interview our friends and sisters and more friends about all this. Some of them are in the same boat. Some of them never stepped off the boat.
And what if it’s not a choice? What if you have to get a decent job to support yourself?
So we interviewed each other using our iPhones. I didn’t have a tripod, so I propped my iPhone in a teacup and hit record. I’m not kidding.
Naming our site was tricky. Hilarious and awkward and tricky.
We spent a lot of time thinking about the name. You have to. It’s like naming a kid. Somehow we stumbled on to the name “bungalowwink.com” .
Bungalow made us think of a cool little place where we work, where we hang out and talk and where we crack each other up while trying to create a website. And wink because the soul of our content will be cheeky – with a wink. So we pull the trigger and register the domain “bungalowwink.com”.
Fast forward to one of our first editorial meetings with another friend – Julie – who wants to contribute to the site. Just when we were feeling pretty good about all this… my husband gets a confirmation email about the domain name.
He sends me a text : “Not to be a buzz kill, but among dudes, a winking-certain-body-part is really naughty. “
OK, stop. What the hell?
So Julie jumps on Urban Dictionary and looks up a winking bungalow.
A word of caution… DO NOT go on Urban Dictionary and look up a winking bungalow.
OK fine, I’ll wait for you while you look that up…
Alright, so once we recovered from all that naughtiness we came up with a really good domain name: shesayspost. It’s a keeper.
